How We Customized a VC-LN120 Rechargeable LED Module for 10+ Hours

Two long-runtime samples led to a delivered 1,000-unit order and a later 3,500-unit repeat order for this rechargeable dome light.

A US buyer called the VC-LN120 a rechargeable dome light. The standard platform was close to what the buyer needed, but the project required longer runtime and reliable operation with an existing remote-control system. The order therefore began with two customized samples rather than moving directly into mass production.

Confirmed result

The customized samples used a 6,000mAh battery and exceeded the buyer's 10-hour target in the recorded colour tests. The buyer then ordered 1,000 units, received the shipment and confirmed that the goods arrived in good condition. A later repeat order was increased to 3,500 units, completed and delivered.

Project details

A standard product platform with project-specific changes.

This was not an off-the-shelf runtime claim. The battery, charger and control matching were reviewed for one specific OEM project, then checked through samples before the buyer committed to a production quantity.

The buyer's requirement

At least 10 hours on the colours used by the application.

RGB lighting runtime is not a single fixed number. Different colours and brightness levels draw different amounts of power, and the result also depends on charge state, battery capacity and control mode. The buyer therefore specified the colours that mattered and requested a minimum 10-hour operating time.

For this configuration, the VC-LN120 samples were fitted with a 6,000mAh rechargeable lithium battery. Because the larger battery needed an appropriate charging arrangement, a 5V/2A charger was selected for the project instead of treating the battery change as an isolated component substitution.

Sample verification

Two samples were built and tested before production.

The recorded factory test used cyan, the highest-consuming colour in that test, for more than 13.5 hours. Green and blue ran longer. These results answered the buyer's immediate sample requirement, but they should not be read as a universal runtime specification for every VC-LN120 configuration.

A new project should repeat the test with its own battery, brightness, colour sequence, controller and charging conditions.

Control compatibility

The new modules had to respond to the buyer's existing remote.

The buyer already had remote controls in use and did not want a new batch of modules that required a separate control system. A physical remote was therefore supplied for matching before production. This is safer than assuming that two visually similar remotes use the same code or receiver.

Buyers with an existing lighting system should provide an original remote, receiver information or a working module for comparison. The available alternatives are explained in our LED module control guide.

From samples to repeat production

The first 1,000-unit order led to a larger repeat order.

After sample evaluation and remote matching, the buyer placed the first 1,000-unit production order. The shipment was received, and the buyer replied that all goods were received in good condition.

Several months later, the buyer requested pricing for another production run. That repeat order was ultimately increased to 3,500 units. The repeat production run was completed and the shipment was delivered to the buyer.

OEM buying lessons

Runtime, charging and controls should be approved together.

  • Define the required runtime by colour, brightness and operating mode.
  • Check whether a larger battery fits the enclosure and thermal design.
  • Match the charger to the approved battery configuration.
  • Test an existing remote physically instead of assuming compatibility.
  • Freeze the tested configuration before production begins.
  • Keep sample and batch records so repeat orders use the same approved setup.

Questions

VC-LN120 long-runtime customization.

Is 6,000mAh the standard battery in every VC-LN120?

No. The 6,000mAh battery was a project-specific configuration selected for this buyer's runtime target. Battery capacity, charging time, enclosure space and order requirements must be confirmed for each project.

Can VC-LN120 work with an existing remote control?

Remote compatibility cannot be assumed from appearance alone. For this project, the buyer supplied its existing remote for matching and production. The exact remote, receiver and control functions should be checked with a sample before a batch order.

Does this case prove that every colour runs for more than 13.5 hours?

No. The recorded result applies to the customized samples and test conditions used for this project. Runtime changes with battery capacity, colour, brightness, control mode, charging condition and operating environment.

What was the confirmed commercial result?

The buyer received the first 1,000-unit order and confirmed that everything arrived in good condition. A later repeat order was increased to 3,500 units and was also completed and delivered.
