85 mm Induction LED Module for a Children's Lamp Prototype

A developer tested three VC-LI85 and three VC-LI120 samples, then selected the compact 85 mm induction-charging module.

In January 2025, a product developer asked Vcan for induction-charging LED samples for a new children's lamp. The intended product would support reading while also serving as a decorative element in a child's room. The customer evaluated three VC-LI85 and three VC-LI120 samples before selecting the smaller 85 mm module for the proof-of-concept design.

Short answer

The customer wanted a rechargeable light with no exposed charging connector and required at least IP65 protection. Vcan supplied two IP68 induction-charge module sizes for evaluation. After testing, the customer selected VC-LI85 and reported excellent battery performance, reliable charging and intuitive use. The available record documents the proof-of-concept sample stage and model selection.

Development objective

A cordless light for reading and room decoration.

The customer described a children's lamp that should provide useful light for reading books and also work as a design object in the room. Induction charging was important because it could make everyday charging simpler and avoid an exposed plug-in charging port on the light module.

At this stage, the customer was building a proof of concept rather than ordering a finished production run. A more detailed module drawing was requested so the customer's 3D designer could integrate the light into the new housing.

Sample-based selection

The developer compared an 85 mm and a 120 mm induction module.

Instead of committing to a housing around one untested module, the customer bought three samples of each size. Both options used induction charging and provided RGB plus white light, but their diameter, battery, power and LED count differed. That allowed the product designer to evaluate physical fit, light output, operation and charging before fixing the lamp housing.

Confirmed project decision

The final sample choice was VC-LI85.

After evaluating both sizes, the customer selected the 85 mm induction-charge module. The evidence confirms the choice but does not attribute it to a single reason. The article therefore does not claim that diameter, brightness, runtime or price alone decided the project.

For another lamp, the right decision may be different. Designers should first check the available opening, internal depth, mounting method, diffuser distance, required brightness and charging-base position. The rechargeable LED module buying guide explains the information needed before approving a sample.

Feedback after sample testing

Battery, charging and usability all received positive feedback.

On February 25, 2025, the customer reported being happy with the samples overall. The written feedback was concise and specific:

“The battery performance is excellent. Charging works well. Usability is intuitive and easy to use.”

This feedback verifies the sample experience; it is not presented as evidence of completed mass production, long-term field use or regulatory approval. The available record covers the customer's sample evaluation and selected module.

Water-protection requirement

The customer requested IP65; the sampled modules are specified IP68.

The developer considered IP65 sufficient for the intended lamp. VC-LI85 and VC-LI120 are specified as IP68 induction-charging modules, providing a higher module-level protection class than the stated minimum requirement. The sealed charging approach also removes the need for an exposed charging connector on the module.

Important integration limit

An IP68 module does not automatically make the finished lamp IP68. The housing, mounting holes, joints, controls and complete assembly must be designed and validated for the finished product's claimed protection level.

See the IP65 versus IP68 LED module guide and the direct-charge versus induction-charge guide for the practical differences.

Possible next-stage development

The customer also asked about logo, mold and LED-board customization.

Before finalizing the proof of concept, the customer asked about logo MOQ, graduated pricing, approximate new-mold cost and custom LED-board development. These questions show the typical path from a standard module sample to a more customized lamp platform, but no custom mold or production order is claimed in this case.

  • Confirm module drawing, opening diameter and installation depth
  • Position the induction base so charging alignment is repeatable
  • Test diffuser distance, reading-light output and surface temperature
  • Define battery access, service method and physical controls
  • Review logo, housing, PCB and packaging changes separately
  • Validate the complete children's lamp for its intended market before sale

Vcan can review the standard module first and then discuss scoped changes through its OEM LED module development service.

Questions

VC-LI85 sample selection for a lamp prototype.

Why did this customer select the 85 mm VC-LI85?

The customer evaluated both 85 mm and 120 mm induction-charging samples and ultimately selected VC-LI85 for the children's lamp prototype. The confirmed record does not state one single deciding factor, so size, brightness, cost or housing fit should not be presented as the sole reason.

Did the customer test both VC-LI85 and VC-LI120?

Yes. The customer requested three sample units of each model before selecting the 85 mm induction-charging option.

What feedback did the customer provide after testing?

The customer said the samples were satisfactory overall, described the battery performance as excellent, confirmed that charging worked well, and found operation intuitive and easy.

Does an IP68 LED module make the complete children's lamp IP68?

No. IP68 in this case describes the selected module configuration. The finished lamp's protection depends on the housing, joints, openings, installation method and complete-product validation.

Did this sample evaluation lead to a repeat production order?

The available records cover sample evaluation and selection of VC-LI85. This article therefore documents a proof-of-concept decision and does not claim a mass-production or repeat order.

Evidence basis: customer emails dated January 13 and February 25, 2025; Vcan's sample record for three VC-LI85 and three VC-LI120 units; and the confirmed final selection of VC-LI85. The customer's name, company and product design are withheld. No finished-lamp certification, mass-production order or repeat order is claimed.
