White-only and colour-changing light selection

White vs RGBW LED Modules for Illuminated Furniture: How to Choose

Need only warm white—or both white light and colours? Choose the light configuration around the finished product.

Vcan Technical Team · October 9, 2026 · 6 min read

Not every illuminated furniture project needs colour changing. Many Vcan customers ask for white light only, and some specifically require warm white. Others need a table, bar, planter or light ball to switch between white light and coloured effects. The useful comparison is therefore white-only versus RGBW—not simply whether a module can display a white-looking colour.

Quick answer

Choose a white-only LED module when the product needs a fixed white-light colour and no RGB effects. Choose RGBW when users need both colour-changing effects and a white-light channel. Vcan's standard white light is cool white; warm white and neutral white can be customized. Specify the required colour temperature—for example, 3000K warm white, 4000K neutral white or 6000K cool white—then confirm the exact configuration and sample inside your furniture or lamp housing.

Start with the actual requirement

White-only and RGBW solve different product needs.

If a customer only needs warm white, colour-changing capability is not the main selection criterion. The priorities become the required white-light appearance, brightness, runtime, charging and installation fit. If the product must serve several event themes, RGBW may be a more suitable starting point because it retains both coloured and white-light operation.

The colour configuration does not decide the control system. A white-only module may still need dimming or a timer; RGBW does not automatically mean app control. See the LED module control guide for the separate control decision.

White light is a specification

Specify cool white, warm white or neutral white before sampling.

Vcan supplies cool white as the standard white-light choice. Warm white and neutral white are available through customization. Tell us which appearance the finished product needs rather than asking only for a “white LED.” Colour temperature is expressed in Kelvin (K): a lower value describes a warmer white appearance, while a higher value describes a cooler white appearance. It does not measure brightness.

Warm white3000KCustom warm-white specification for ambient lamps or hospitality furniture
Neutral white4000KCustom neutral-white specification between warm and cool white

These are colour-temperature examples to help define an enquiry, not a fixed specification for every Vcan model. Confirm the exact Kelvin value and approved sample for your order. For RGBW, specify the white channel in the same way.

A yellow or orange RGB effect is not the same specification as warm-white LEDs. If the buyer requests warm white only, the quotation and sample should identify a warm-white configuration—not simply a colour preset on an RGBW remote.

Check the light through the actual PE, acrylic or other translucent shell. Its colour, thickness, shape and distance from the LEDs affect the visible result. For a project where reading or task lighting matters, also agree measurable output and light-quality requirements; choosing a warm-white colour alone does not establish suitability.

First-hand product demonstrations

Keep colour and hardware selection separate

Select a module platform, then confirm its white-only or RGBW configuration.

Start from the available opening, mounting pattern, depth, charging access and required light distribution. The following product pages describe reference platforms, not a promise that every custom white-only version is stocked or shares the standard price.

  • Compact lamps and displays: compare the 45 mm, 60 mm and 75 mm module platforms when installation space is limited.
  • General illuminated furniture: review VC-LN120 as a 120 mm rechargeable RGBW reference, then discuss a white-only requirement where needed.
  • Side-access charging: VC-L117-D01 is a standard RGBW reference for installations where underside charging is inconvenient.
  • App-controlled furniture: VC-AP120 normally uses Bluetooth with the Tuya app and retains a physical button, dimming and timer functions. A remote is not standard; suitable orders can request customization.

For a real warm-light development brief, see the custom portable table lamp module case. Its project-specific light-quality requirements are not specifications for every Vcan module.

For an existing light that needs replacement, use the replacement LED module compatibility service. Moving from RGBW to white-only still requires electrical, charging, control and sealing checks.

Make the quotation specific

Compare the approved light configuration, not just the module name.

White-only is not automatically cheaper, brighter or longer-running. The result depends on the LED layout, operating power, battery, brightness setting and control electronics. Request separate quotations if you want to compare white-only with RGBW, and test both at the brightness the finished product will actually use.

  • Product type, shell material, installation dimensions and quantity.
  • White-only or RGBW; cool, warm or neutral white, with a target colour temperature if required.
  • Required brightness, dimming, timer and control method.
  • Target operating time and the intended charging routine.
  • Water exposure, mounting and sealing requirements.
  • Included accessories, logo or packaging requests, and delivery country.
Need only warm white? Say so in the first enquiry.

Send your product dimensions, preferred white-light colour and quantity. Vcan can review a suitable rechargeable module configuration and identify the sample checks needed before production.

Questions

White-only and RGBW module selection.

Can I order a white-only LED module without RGB colours?

Yes. Vcan can supply white-only configurations for customers who do not need colour-changing effects. Confirm the selected platform, white-light specification, control functions, quantity and approved sample before production.

What is Vcan's standard white-light colour?

Standard white light is cool white. Warm white and neutral white can be customized. For your specification, examples include 3000K warm white, 4000K neutral white and 6000K cool white. Confirm the exact colour temperature for the selected model and order; these examples do not mean every standard module is fixed at 6000K.

Is a yellow RGB effect the same as warm white?

No. A yellow or orange colour effect is not a specification for warm-white light. If warm white is required, request a warm-white LED configuration and assess it inside the finished translucent housing.

Does RGBW include white light as well as colours?

Yes. RGBW combines RGB colour effects with a white-light channel. Confirm the white channel's colour temperature, output and available control functions for the selected configuration.

Will a white-only module always cost less or run longer?

Not necessarily. Price and runtime depend on the LED layout, power, brightness setting, battery, controller and order quantity. Compare quotations and sample runtime at the intended operating setting rather than assuming an automatic advantage.

Can a white-only module replace an existing RGBW module?

It may be possible if colour effects are no longer needed, but physical fit, charging, voltage, control and sealing must still be checked. A matching diameter alone does not prove replacement compatibility.

This guide uses Vcan-confirmed white-light options and real product photographs. Custom specifications, pricing, availability and control functions must be agreed for the selected order. Photographs do not establish colour temperature, measured brightness or runtime.
